The Honourable Rebel

The Honourable Rebel

Discover the astonishing story of the Hon Elizabeth Montagu, elder sister of Edward, 3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu.

Actress, writer, linguist, musician and secret agent… This dramatic true story was shot mostly on the Beaulieu Estate.

BORN AN ARISTOCRAT

Born as heir to the Beaulieu estate, this feisty, impulsive woman needed to spread her wings. The birth of her younger brother Edward gave her that freedom. After a period on the London West End stage, Elizabeth spent much of the 1930s studying in Switzerland and travelling across Europe, developing her fluency in German, French and Italian – skills that would prove invaluable at the outbreak of war.

LIVED A REBEL

Refusing to leave France when the British were evacuated in June 1940, Elizabeth’s dramatic escape from the Gestapo forms a gripping second act of the film. In Switzerland she became a secret agent, working for Britain and America – once again in danger. Discover a complex journey of drama, global escapades and sometimes life-threatening danger.
