Working from her studio in rural Oxfordshire, sculptor Marie Shepherd draws deeply from the natural world that surrounds her. The rolling hills of the Cotswolds, the local flora and fauna, and the ever-changing rhythms of the seasons all inspire her sculptural forms.
Originally from Brittany, France, Marie moved to England in 1980, settling in Oxfordshire with her British husband to raise their family. Her French heritage and deep love of the natural world are woven into every piece she creates.
Marie’s work explores a wide range of subjects—from the elegance and sensitivity of the human form to the gentle humour found in animals and the pleasing simplicity of natural objects such as fruits. Her sculptures reveal a keen eye for life’s details and a deep appreciation for its beauty.
She sculpts primarily in wax, clay, or plaster—choosing her materials based on the texture and finish she envisions. These original pieces are then cast in bronze or bronze resin. Her process is intuitive and fluid; the sculpture evolves as she works, gradually revealing its final form.
Her work is exhibited regularly throughout the UK and is held in private collections both in Britain and abroad.
