Long Ly

Sculptor Profile

Long Ly came to the UK as a refugee of the Vietnam war. After completing his education and becoming a chef and restaurant manager, he changed direction and is now a completely self-taught sculptor renowned for creating captivating artworks solely through the technique of hand-cutting recycled and reclaimed metals. With a deep commitment to sustainable art practices, he transforms metal materials, deemed as waste, into sculptures, without the use of welding or industrial machinery.

Drawing inspiration from the inherent beauty of found objects and the limitless possibilities of metal, Long employs his hand-cutting techniques to breathe life into each creation. His dedication to craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail result in intricate and expressive artworks that evoke a sense of wonder and admiration.

As an advocate for environmental consciousness, Long carefully selects discarded metals, including steel, aluminium, copper, and bronze, for his artworks. By repurposing these materials, he not only reduces waste but fills his sculptures with unique character and history. Each piece tells a story, showcasing the beauty that lies within the recycled materials he uses.
