Deborah Harrison

Sculptor Profile

Deborah is a stone sculptor who specialises in alabaster.

She discovered stone carving at the Greenbelt Arts Festival and has been practicing as a professional sculptor for the last decade. She is largely self-taught with a year’s diploma in stone masonry.

Deborah follows the stone’s grain, shape and colour: a technique called Direct Carving. As a result, the genres of the sculptures are wide, including nature, spiritual themes, social issues as well as abstract and figurative forms. The greatest influence on her work is her faith. Her work is in private collections in Europe and the USA. Clients in the UK include the Gloucestershire NHS Trust, the Chair of the Anti-torture Committee of the United Nations (also put an image of the sculpture on his book cover), a private commission for the aristocracy and her most recent commission is for royalty. She had her first solo exhibition at Canwood Gallery and has exhibited widely across the UK (e.g. RWA, BSA, SWA and UK Art Fairs).

Deborah is a founder member of the Cotswold Sculptors Association and Gloucester Contemporary Artists. Deborah leads carving courses at her workshop and Gloucester Cathedral.
