Claire Nelson

Sculptor Profile

Claire Nelson is best known for her striking sculptures of figures, marine life & wood casts in bronze and iron resin.

Whilst representational, her work is driven by feelings and sensations, often resulting in highly evocative, emotional pieces. Deeply inspired by nature, a key theme is change, along with the power, beauty and delicate balance of man’s inextricable bond with nature. Her work aims to capture the joy and magic at the heart of all natural things.

Growing up, Claire sculpted with her mother, a professional figurative sculptor. Giving way to the study of languages, then came a rich and varied career in France, UK, Italy & Caribbean.

Returning to UK with her Italian husband, art re-emerged, and she trained in modelling, mould making and casting at the School of Sculpture, Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London. She now works out of her studio in Surrey.

With work in a royal collection and other private collections in UK, Italy, France, Australia, USA and China, her international career spans two and half decades. Included are exhibitions throughout UK, Italy, France, Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland & China, as well as galleries in Paris and Rome.
