THE SHELL ART COLLECTION
The Shell Art Collection is one of the most extraordinary collections of commercial art in
Britain. It is housed at the Library of Motoring and managed for Shell UK Limited by the
National Motor Museum Trust.
The collection spans the period from the 1920's to the 1960's with most
of the posters having been produced during the 1930's. Many of the artists went on the become
among the most famous in British contemporary art.
The collection also contains many wonderful humourous press advertisements of the 1920's
and postcards pre-dating the First World War. Generations of schoolchildren grew up with
' Shell Guides to Nature ' on their classroom walls, all painted by Shell artists.
