THE FILM AND VIDEO LIBRARY
The Film and Video Library was established in 1979, at a time when the motor industry was in
recession and archive material was being lost through destruction or neglect. The mission of
the Film and Video Library was to save this film for posterity, an aim which continues to this
day.
Over the years, the Film and Video Collection has grown enormously through the addition of
corporate archives from Ford, Vauxhall, Rootes, Peugeot Talbot, Dunlop, the Metropolitan Police,
Automobile Association and Royal Automobile Club. Private collections have also been acquired,
along with a considerable amount of motorsport material. In addition, we act as agents for
several other collections.
Material held in the Film and Video Library is made available to as wide an audience as
possible :
- Themed film evenings are held in our well-appointed lecture theatre, usually in association
with our Friends' organisation.
- Footage is often used by makers of films, videos, corporate productions and TV programmes,
subject to copyright clearance.
- In the future, we plan to launch a series of videos for sale to the general public,
featuring material from the Collection.
