EDUCATION AT BUCKLER'S HARD
This 18th century shipbuilding village is situated just two miles from
Beaulieu on the banks of
the Beaulieu River. The Buckler's Hard Story reflects the shipbuilding history of the village
with models, pictures and artefacts, while the historic cottage interiors portray life there at
the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries and are thus ideal for educational visits.
Ships and Seafarers
Led by 18th century villagers, groups enjoy a role play tour introducing them to ships and
shipbuilding. They learn about everyday life in the village at the time, finding out how the
shipwrights and the labourers lived and why there was a salt officer. Available throughout the
year, this programme is aimed at KS 1, 2 and 3.
This programme is just part of an award-winning educational resource for all ages in the
heart of the historic New Forest and based around the historic Beaulieu Estate. For more
information, please refer to our main Education
page and the other Education pages within each of the other Beaulieu sites, or
contact Beaulieu using our Educational Booking and Enquiry Form.
